Much has happened since the Critical Edition of Hannah Arendt's works was launched and, in 2020, included in DFG's long-term funding program: Three volumes of the edition have been released and widely discussed in the press and academia. November 2023 saw the official launch of the edition's web portal, the central digital access point to the Critical Edition, which makes Arendt's works freely available in a significantly expanded digital form and with enhanced tools. This April, the new volume of the printed edition has been published by Wallstein Verlag: Hannah Arendt's last book project The Life of the Mind. This new, critical edition constitutes, for the first time, the text of the typescripts as Arendt had left them—completed drafts of “Thinking” and “Willing” and the title page of “Judging”—supplemented by a wealth of previously unpublished material.
The event on April 23, 2024, will take these developments as an opportunity for exchange. In addition to lectures on Hannah Arendt's works, the Critical Edition and digital edition practice, the program will also include the presentation of the new, two-volume edition of The Life of the Mind. In the evening, we cordially invite you to a reading from Arendt's Rahel Varnhagen, the Six Essays, The Modern Challenge to Tradition and The Life of the Mind by the actresses Sarah Franke and Franziska Machens.
